WELLS STREET

The client for the Wells Street residence was very conscious of how their busy lives could be improved by the renovation and they were keen to consider all aspects of functionality by mapping out movement through the house and considering their three daughters’ changing needs and interests. The long ground floor storage wall runs for the more than half the length of the home and this houses everything from shoes, bags to art supplies. Open niches along this custom joinery element provide opportunities for styled objects plus a desk for the kids and a space for a piano. A sliding ladder provides access to high storage and we also designed a fireplace to sit flush below the tv. There is a laundry chute from the upper floor direct to the laundry which is concealed behind cupboards in the dual purpose ground floor bathroom/laundry space.

The brief called for a boutique hotel vibe that felt like a home. The high ceiling, conceal lighting and warm timbers creates a welcoming and calm environment. Pops of colour and fun are realised in the finishes. The exterior street art combined with custom floor tile to the courtyard makes a real statement on entry to this inner west home and reflects the creativity of the family.

Working alongside architect Jessica Matson, we chose strong contrasting exterior finishes which are softened by the landscaping and the calming visual of the small but impactful pool.
